Partner: European Union, Coginta Ghana
Project Period: December 2024

Overview:

This intervention aims to ensure that the delivery of social and critical services by decentralized agencies in targeted districts prioritizes social inclusion—recognizing that violent extremism often thrives in contexts of exclusion. The initiative emphasizes the active participation of marginalized groups in shaping inclusive service delivery and local governance.

It addresses both demand- and supply-side barriers to inclusion, focusing on building the capacity of key stakeholders and decentralized agencies to develop Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) strategies through participatory processes. These efforts will involve assembly actors and representatives of excluded groups, promoting stakeholder engagement led by these communities.

Overall Objective:
To promote Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) for equitable service delivery and social cohesion in three districts of the Northern Region of Ghana.

Specific Objectives:

  1. Enhance local capacity and awareness on social inclusion as a strategy for peacebuilding and preventing violent extremism.

  2. Mainstream social inclusion and PVE (Preventing Violent Extremism) strategies into district development plans, influenced by the voices of excluded groups such as youth, women, and Fulbe communities.

  3. Promote GESI through community-led radio discussions and peace walks.

Implementation Districts (15 communities across 3 districts):

  • Nanumba North Municipal

  • Tatale/Sanguli District

  • Kpandai District

Funding:
This initiative is funded by the European Union through Coginta under the Peace Protect initiative.
