The Slaight Foundation Project is an initiative by Kinvia and Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS) to empower smallholder female farmers in Northern Ghana with knowledge and skills in irrigated agriculture and its value chain opportunities as well as household nutrition. 

The project also focuses on increasing access to productive resources for smallholders through direct input support and community saving and loan scheme to facilitate credit access for farming and other livelihoods ventures. 

This Project will provide Solar-powered irrigation system with water storage facilities and water sprinklers/drip machines to support all-year round vegetable cultivation while training and coaching both men and women to form and sustain Village Saving and Loan Associations. The project is funded by Slaight Foundation in Canada in partnership Kinvia.

Objectives and Activities

The main objective of the Slaight Foundation project is to provide opportunities for cultivation of vegetables with high nutritional value for household consumption to improve nutrition and increased income of participants through VSLA savings and loans mobilization to support families in the target regions. 

This is achieved through:

· Solar-Powered Irrigation for farming vegetables of high nutritional value all year.

· Strengthening of VSLA activities for both women and men to increase savings.

The project aims:

· Improved Nutrition: Households have consistent access to diverse foods like vegetables, fruits, and orange flesh sweet potato foods, leading to better dietary diversity and nutritional outcomes

· Increased Income: Farmers mobilize savings and access loans to expand and diversify income generating streams
