RAINS Secures New Project to Boost Youth Skills and Employment in Northern Ghana

The Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS), is excited to announce that we have been awarded the SEAL Project – Strengthening Employability, Agency, and Livelihoods among Young People in Northern Ghana. This is a major new initiative aimed at transforming the lives of young people in Northern Ghana.

Funded by the Wilde Ganzen Foundation, the project will run from July 2025 to June 2027 and will provide market-driven technical, vocational, and soft skills training to 500 young people across the Tamale Metropolis, Sagnarigu Municipal, and Nanumba South District.

Through SEAL, RAINS will:

  • Equip youth with construction-related skills such as plumbing, masonry, tiling, and carpentry
  • Support certification for those with existing skills but with no formal recognition
  • Train young women, especially school dropouts and those without any skills or employment in short-term livelihood skills such as hair braiding, soap and detergent making, beads and sandals production
  • Provide soft skills training in job readiness, financial literacy, and business development
  • Offer apprenticeships, mentorships, and linkages to employment opportunities

Addressing Unemployment Challenges
Northern Ghana continues to face high levels of youth unemployment, particularly among those not in education, employment, or training (NEET). Many young people have limited access to practical, market-relevant training that would allow them to secure decent work or start their own businesses. The SEAL Project directly addresses this gap by delivering targeted, hands-on training designed in collaboration with the private sector and accredited TVET institutions.

Community Partnerships
In preparation for implementation, RAINS has already engaged with local Assemblies from Sagnarigu Municipal, Tamale Metropolitan, and  Nanumba South District to discuss roles, strategies, and partnership commitments. This collaboration ensures the project will reach those who need it the most and will have long-lasting impact.

A History of Impact
The SEAL Project builds on RAINS’ proven track record in youth skills development, notably through the PASEWAY Project, where hundreds of young people gained employable skills and transitioned into meaningful work or entrepreneurship.

Looking Ahead
RAINS Executive Director, Hardi Tijani, expressed enthusiasm about the new opportunity:

“This project is not just about skills training; it’s about restoring hope, building livelihoods, and creating pathways for our young people to thrive. We are committed to making the SEAL Project a model for youth empowerment in Ghana.”
