From Aspiration to Achievement: Madam Martha’s Story
In the quiet community of Nangua, East Mamprusi, Madam Martha has risen as a beacon of hope and transformation.
Like many women in her community, Martha once relied only on subsistence farming and petty trading to care for her family. But her life changed when she joined the Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) under the GROWING Project.
Through financial literacy training and small loans, Martha turned her dreams into reality. She started a piggery business with just two piglets and, with hard work and good animal care practices, grew her livestock.
Today, Martha proudly owns 8 pigs! Her income supports her children’s education and improves her household’s wellbeing.
More than that, she has become a role model—inspiring other women during VSLA meetings to believe in themselves and pursue financial independence.
“The GROWING project didn’t just give me a loan. It gave me a future,” says Martha with pride.
Her journey is proof that when women are empowered with opportunity, knowledge, and determination, sustainable change becomes possible.
