Partner: AXIS Denmark, Ghana Education Service
Project Period: April, 2025 to March, 2026
Overview:
The Climate Change Project (CCP) aims to bridge the knowledge gap on climate change by transforming schools into centres of climate action learning. Through this approach, students become active Climate Ambassadors, promoting sustainable practices within their families and communities.
The overall goal of the project is to strengthen the capacity of students and teachers to understand, adapt to, and mitigate climate change through education, agroecological practices, and community engagement — made possible with the support of the Justesen Foundation.
Project Aims:
Aim 1: Educate students and teachers on climate change concepts, causes, impacts, and solutions.
Aim 2: Provide technical support for the management of existing school gardens, using them as living laboratories for agroecological and sustainable practice learning.
Aim 3: Develop students’ leadership skills so they can serve as Climate Ambassadors in their communities.
Aim 4: Foster partnerships between schools, local authorities, agricultural experts, and environmental organizations.
Knowledge Outcomes:
Participants will be able to explain climate change and its causes, and understand both national and local efforts to mitigate and adapt to it.
Skills Outcomes:
Participants will act as active climate agents — adapting to and mitigating climate change, contributing to adaptation and mitigation plans for their families, communities, and schools, and enhancing their abilities to observe, analyse, and evaluate climate impacts. They will also develop associated skills such as public speaking, active listening, and group work.
The project is implemented by RAINS in partnership with AXIS (a Danish CSO), with funding support from CISU/DANIDA and the Justesen Foundation, as part of the multi-country Empowerment of Civil Society Through Quality Education Programme.
Project Location:
Savelugu Municipal in the Northern Region of Ghana.
