Nature & Landscape Restoration Initiatives

Restoring Landscapes, Protecting Biodiversity, Empowering Communities

The Nature & Landscape Restoration Initiatives strengthen community leadership in protecting ecosystems, restoring degraded landscapes, and promoting climate resilience across Northern Ghana. Through agroecological practices, indigenous knowledge, and youth engagement, the initiative empowers local communities to safeguard nature while creating sustainable livelihoods for future generations.

About the Project

Community-Led Restoration for a Sustainable Future

Healthy ecosystems are essential for food security, biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. However, climate change, land degradation, and unsustainable land use continue to threaten both people and nature across Northern Ghana. The Nature & Landscape Restoration Initiatives were established to strengthen ecological governance by empowering communities to protect their natural environment while promoting sustainable livelihoods. The initiative recognizes that protecting biodiversity and restoring degraded landscapes are most effective when local communities lead the process.Implemented by RAINS with support from Gower Street, ABN, and the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF), the project combines nature-based solutions, agroecological practices, youth leadership, and indigenous knowledge to build resilient landscapes and communities.
