INCOME Programme

Integrated Community Empowerment

The INCOME Program is one of RAINS’ flagship initiatives dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth, women, and vulnerable households across Northern Ghana. Through integrated interventions in food security, education, livelihoods, and community development, the programme empowers families to build resilient futures and break the cycle of poverty.

About the Programme

Building Stronger Families and Resilient Communities

The Integrated Community Empowerment (INCOME) Program is a long-term community development initiative implemented by RAINS to address the interconnected challenges of poverty, food insecurity, limited educational opportunities, and weak local systems.Implemented in partnership with Kinvia (formerly Canadian Feed the Children), the programme works closely with communities, government institutions, and local leaders to strengthen livelihoods, improve nutrition, expand access to quality education, and build sustainable community structures.Rather than addressing problems individually, the programme adopts a holistic approach that enables families to improve their income, educate their children, and create healthier, more resilient communities.

Our Goal

To improve the quality of life of children, youth, women, and families through integrated interventions that strengthen livelihoods, improve nutrition, expand access to quality education, and empower communities to lead their own development.

Programme Strategic Priorities

Food Security

The programme supports smallholder farmers with improved seeds, fertilizer, training, climate-smart agriculture, cassava production, orange-fleshed sweet potato cultivation, livestock support, and beekeeping to improve household food production and nutrition.

Livelihood & Skills Development

Women and youth receive practical livelihood opportunities including cassava processing, poultry production, livestock rearing, entrepreneurship support, and vocational skills that increase household incomes.

Education & Child Sponsorship

Children receive school uniforms, learning materials, ICT resources, health insurance, and financial assistance while schools benefit from improved infrastructure and teacher support.

Community Development

RAINS strengthens community ownership by working with traditional leaders, district assemblies, government agencies, schools, and community volunteers to ensure sustainable development.
